Best surf beaches near Lisbon

Lisbon is one of the few European capitals where you can surf before lunch and have lunch in the city centre. Here are the best beaches for surfers of all levels.

Carcavelos — 20 minutes by train

Carcavelos is the most popular surf beach near Lisbon. Wide beach break, sandy bottom, predictable waves. Perfect for lessons and after-work sessions. Accessible by train (Cascais line).

Costa da Caparica — 25 minutes

On the south bank, Costa da Caparica offers 15km of beaches with waves for all levels. CDS beach is the most popular for surfing. Less crowded than Carcavelos, more space.

Guincho — 35 minutes

Guincho has dynamic waves and incredible scenery next to the Sintra Park. With the right instructor, it's a unique experience.

Santo Amaro — 30 minutes

Urban beach in Oeiras, sheltered from the wind. Small and consistent waves — a good alternative to Carcavelos when it's crowded.
