A surf weekend in Portugal — where to go and how to plan it

There's a way to learn to surf that works better than any other: a weekend. A single lesson is a good first taste, but the body forgets. From Porto

Matosinhos (in the city) and the Costa Verde to the south — Espinho, Esmoriz — 25 minutes by train. Consistent beach breaks, fewer crowds to the south, and the easiest logistics going (step off the train and you're at the sea).

How to plan the two days

Two days are enough to move from "trying" to "surfing". After that, you just come back.
