Beginner surf equipment

Before spending hundreds of euros on equipment, read this. Most schools on Surf Booking include board and wetsuit in the lesson price — you don't need to buy anything to get started.

What the school provides

  • Foam board (softboard) — safe, stable, perfect for learning
  • Wetsuit — suited to the time of year
  • Leash — cord that attaches the board to your ankle

What you should bring

  • Swimsuit — to wear under the wetsuit
  • Sunscreen — SPF 50+, water-resistant
  • Towel and dry clothes — for after the lesson
  • Water and a snack — surfing burns a lot of energy

When to buy your own equipment?

After 8-10 lessons, once you know you want to continue. Start with a used softboard (7’0 to 8’0) — it's cheaper and easier to learn on. The wetsuit depends on the season: 3/2mm in summer, 4/3mm in winter.

Wetsuit sizing

The wetsuit should be snug but not tight. Schools on Surf Booking automatically calculate the ideal size based on your weight and height — just fill in your profile.

Book your first lesson — equipment is included.
