Sea Creatures — surf & SUP in Albufeira, away from the crowds

Some people learn to surf in a crowd, twenty boards fighting over the same wave and one instructor for the lot. And then there's Sea Creatures. In Olhos de Água, a former fishing village in Albufeira, Diogo does the exact opposite: small groups, real attention, and the sea away from the busy hours and busy spots.

Diogo — a lifetime in the sea

His love for the ocean started in the 90s, right there in Olhos de Água, with a beat-up bodyboard and a relentless desire to catch waves. A couple of decades later, Diogo is a certified ASI & IPDJ surf instructor and the founder of Sea Creatures — and what drives him is still the same: seeing the pure joy on a student's face as they catch their first wave and build a connection with the ocean.

The philosophy — people, not numbers

Sea Creatures is built around a high-quality, personalised approach to surf and stand-up paddle (SUP). Unlike crowded lessons and commercial tours — where guidance is thin and every student is just another head count — here it's small groups, individual attention and progression at your own pace. The goal is simple: that you feel comfortable, confident and safe, in a fun environment that actually works.

It's the difference between the rush of catching your first wave and the serene peace of paddling a SUP across a calm cove — and having someone beside you who actually notices you.

Where — and “the office is the ocean”

The base is Olhos de Água (Albufeira), but Sea Creatures is a mobile school: there's no storefront. They bring the adventure to you and pick the right spot for the day — from Falésia to more sheltered coves, away from the busier beaches of the central Algarve. Need transport? They'll arrange it. You relax and enjoy your holiday — they take care of the rest.

— Surf lessons — small groups or private, from your first pop-up to reading the wave, equipment included.

— SUP tours — stand-up paddle tours across calm water, at everyone's pace, with a briefing before you set off.

— Equipment rental — surfboards, SUPs, bodyboards and wetsuits.

A certified ASI & IPDJ instructor, a registered tourism-activity company (RNAAT Nº 409/2024) and insured through Mútua dos Pescadores. Sea Creatures also commits to environmental sustainability and responsible tourism — so the adventure leaves a positive mark on the ocean and the local community.
